Considering that I only saw this advertised on AudioGames.net and nowhere else, I could, of course, be wrong. I don't use Mastodon, you see. I never could get my head around the whole instance thing. These days, I mainly hang out on AppleVis and AudioGames.net. The rest of the time I'm doing other things.
I don't use Klango to listen to media, and I don't really use it as a media player. I've got enough media players installed on my computer as it is. I mainly use Klango for the forums, and right now the forums are pretty quiet.
Maybe that's just this day and age. There are so many social networks now that the blind community has become pretty fragmented. I think even if the Zone BBS was still around today, that would probably be reasonably quiet as well, simply because mainstream social networks have taken over.
Not everyone uses Discord, for instance. Sometimes that's by choice, but sometimes it isn't. Discord can be a bit tedious to use, particularly with a screen reader, and it's also banned in some countries.
I never used Elten either, even back when it first launched.
Will I continue using Klango? Right now, I'm basically just popping on from time to time to see what's happening on the forums. I'll reply to posts where I've got something useful to say, and that's about it.
The Klango chat feature is something I haven't managed to get working, at least not with this revived version. If I can get that working, then I might actually hang around in the chat rooms from time to time.
But what I really think this platform needs is games that you can play online with other people.
Yes, I know you can just go to RS Games or The Playroom. But hey, it's a similar idea, isn't it? You download an app, play some games with friends and chat while you're playing. There's no reason why Klango couldn't do something similar.
We've come a long way since the original Klango, so I don't think a revived Klango necessarily has to be stuck in the past either. The old games could still be there. Nobody would have to play the newer interactive or multiplayer stuff if they didn't want to.
I'm just saying there needs to be some other way for people to interact on here apart from posting on forums. Otherwise, it's basically going to become another social network where people occasionally post something to a forum and then disappear again.
