klango 3.5.4b8 is finally here
Hello everyone.
Klango 3.5.4b8 is out, together with framework version 0.7. This one is a big one, probably the biggest since the revival, so I won't list everything here. Just the things I'm most excited about.
The programs bug on Windows is fixed
Many of you wrote to me about this one: you installed a program, Klango said the installation was complete, but the program never showed up in the Programs menu. It only happened on some computers, which made it really hard to track down. The reason was a folder named apps directly on drive C. If your computer had one, Klango looked for its programs there instead of in its own folder, and so it never found them. That's fixed now. Your programs should show up again, and if the files of a program went missing, Klango simply offers it for installation again. Special thanks to the user BlueDove for letting me remotely access their computer and debug from there, without that debugging would have taken much longer.
Conferences and calls
This is the one I've been talking about for a while, and now it's finally here. Under Klango Network, Conferences you find a voice room for every group you are in, plus the open rooms, and you can create your own room too. Want to call someone privately? Press Enter on a user, for example in your contacts, and choose Call. An incoming call rings with the alarm sound of your sound theme, Enter answers and Escape declines. It rings on every computer where you are signed in, and whoever answers first takes the call.
Two-factor sign-in
You can now protect your account with a code by Telegram or text message, with backup codes. Set it up under Klango Network, My account, My two-factor settings. Don't worry, the code is only asked for on a new device.
Mastodon instead of Twitter
Twitter is gone, Mastodon takes its place. Under My Mastodon settings you can share your status, new blog posts and new forum topics, and forum topics can be shared with Share on Mastodon. It uses the same sign-in as the Klango Mastodon program, so you only have to connect once.
A few more things I really like
- You can create your own polls. Open the Alt menu in the public polls and choose New poll or My polls. You can test them, publish them, publish them in a group and see the results.
- Notifications arrive right away now instead of being checked every few minutes. What's new works just like before.
- You can choose your sound card for output and input under Settings, Sound cards. If the device disappears, Klango simply falls back to the system default.
- Guests can read the forums and the media catalog. Just leave the Klango ID empty when signing in. The forums can also be read on the web without signing in.
- F2 switches between open Klango programs again, and every program has its own letter for returning to it, for example K for Klango, M for Mastodon and T for Telephone. On Windows it's Shift+Control+Alt plus the letter, on the Mac Option+Command+Shift plus the letter.
- Playback speed can now be changed without changing the pitch(thanks to user Ernie for the catch), and internet radio reconnects by itself after a dropout, a running recording just continues.
- Mac users: the global player keys now use Option instead of Command, for example Option+X for the next track and Option+Space for pause. So Command+X cuts text again.
- Windows users: F3 now hides Klango to a real icon in the notification area, press Enter on it to bring Klango back.
For the Windows power users
Klango can now run completely from another drive. Start it with --overwrite-config-path and --overwrite-recordings-path, for example klango.exe --overwrite-config-path=data --overwrite-recordings-path=recordings. Relative paths are taken next to klango.exe.
How to get it
This update comes as a full package, so Klango will offer it to you when you start it. The programs Math Tools, Dice Poker, Long Jump and Klango Mastodon got their own updates, you find them under Download programs and updates.
That was only a part of it. The complete change log is under Help, ChangeLog.
Thanks to all of you for your bug reports, your fatal error logs and your patience. It's really great to see this community growing. Also, soon a moderator application will start, first for the english klango community and later also the other official klango groups.Enjoy the new stuff.
