Klango is an audio network for blind and partially sighted people. This service is a private, non-commercial reimplementation of the original Klango network, which has been shut down. It is not connected to the original operators of Klango, is run voluntarily and without any commercial interest, and exists to keep accessible access alive for the community. There is no entitlement to availability, to any particular feature, or to your data being kept.
1. What this service is
This is a private reimplementation. It is run on a best-effort basis ("as is"), without any warranty and without commercial interest.
The operator may restrict, pause or shut down the service at any time. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.
2. Who may use the service
You must have reached the minimum age for using online social services that applies in your country of residence (in many countries 16 years under Art. 8 GDPR; in others 13 years). Below that age you need the consent of a parent or guardian.
An account is personal. You are responsible for everything done under your KlangoID, and you keep your password to yourself.
3. How members behave
Treat other members with respect. Insults, harassment, bullying and threats are forbidden, as is hate speech or disparagement based on origin, skin colour, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief.
Also forbidden are unlawful content, calls to violence, sexualised depictions of minors, spam, fraud, and obtaining or publishing other people's personal data without permission ("doxxing").
4. Content and copyright
You keep the rights to the content you post. You grant the service only the simple, revocable right to store that content for the purpose of running the service and to show it to, or play it for, other members.
Post only content you hold the necessary rights to. Copyright infringements are removed on notice (notice-and-takedown in the sense of the DMCA / Art. 14 DSA).
The radio and podcast content linked from the media catalogue is provided by third parties; the service is not liable for foreign streams and does not store their audio.
5. Privacy
Only the data needed to run the service is processed: your KlangoID, your password (stored as a verifier), an optional e-mail address, and the content you create yourself (posts, messages, notes, profile).
The legal basis is the performance of the user relationship (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The data is not sold and is not passed to third parties for advertising.
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability (Art. 15-20 GDPR). A request to delete your account is enough; it will be honoured as far as technically possible.
6. Moderation and termination
The operator and the moderators appointed by the operator may remove content that breaks these terms or the law, and may warn, suspend or delete accounts in cases of abuse.
You may give up your account at any time. In serious or repeated cases of abuse, access may be withdrawn without notice.
7. Liability
The service is provided without warranty. As far as the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect damage or for loss of data. Mandatory statutory liability (for example for intent or gross negligence) is unaffected.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms may be adjusted. For substantial changes you will be asked to agree again at your next sign-in. The version in force is always available through this service.
9. Governing law
The law of the country in which the operator resides applies, subject to the mandatory consumer and data protection law of the country you are in. Mandatory rights granted to you by your home law are unaffected.
By using this service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
