Sorry about that everybody. The old timer now. Yes, there's Nick doing various accents. I did actually mean him to showcase his own accent, which is very well spoken is my friend. And his mum's got a lovely accent. And they live in a lovely house. And they're lovely people. But I was going to ask, is there, I have one or two, are there any accents, you know, that people, that you,
absolutely, just cannot stand to hear? You know, you don't have anything against the people that speak them. It's not that you dislike the people, but you just can't bear to hear the accent. You know, and somebody with that accent, like a host, you know, a talk, a radio presenter, or an actress, you just cannot listen to anything they do because of their accent. There are people like that. I mean, I find a strong Scouse accent. You know, nothing against the people. They can be lovely people. But,
I just find the accents are grating. You know, I, and a lot of very strong accents, I think, can be. Yeah, me too. Well, take care everybody. Bye bye.

Hello, I'm using the Slovakian accent because I'm from Slovakia with various accents. For example, Arabic accent. For example, pronunciation is unqualified. Unqualified is half Russian and half Arabic language or Hamachi. It's typical Arabic pronunciation in my English. But my English is very unqualified.
I make some errors in the English. My accent in the English is very unqualified for Great Britain, unqualified for American accent, unqualified for my accent, unqualified for Russian and various accents.

Hi, this is a post in response to Dan's question about what accent she don't like. Again, like Dan, I have one. And again, it's nothing against the people, although it may be an association with a person. She wasn't a bad person, she just used to get on my nerves. The accent in question is the real strong Northern Irish accent. The kind of people that don't say ground, they say grind.
And I think it's because it reminds me very much of my godmother, who in her own right is a very nice person, but she's one of these really gushy people. And she comes up to you and she's loud, and she comes up to you and she puts her arms around you and goes, Hello sweetheart, how are you? And you're like, ah, go away. I think that's why I don't like the accent now, because it just reminds me of this particular person. What was the other thing I was going to say? Oh yeah, that's right, another thing I was going to say.
I think it's funny because I like Billy Connolly and he's funny. And I am three-quarter Scottish, if you go by blood. My mum's dad was Scottish and my dad's Scottish, so I have Scottish connections.
I actually find it really funny when people do that great big Billy Connolly Glasgow accent. It's great fun. I love it.

I used to date a guy from Northern Ireland, and he and his whole family had very strong, you know, Northern Irish accents, and, you know, like the hi, no, Brian Kai, like, and it was fine when I was just talking to him on his own because I could understand him, but, you know, when he'd get together with some of his friends, you know, and they would talk together, they'd talk so fast, it would just sound like la-la-la-la.
And I'd just be sitting there going, I'm just going to sit here and not contribute because I don't understand. I just do not understand what's actually being said here. And his parents had such strong accents that it really did sound like, you know, how are you?
And, you know, they were full of people with, you know, the Northern Irish accents. God, it was horrible.

The funniest accent is I think that Welsh accent. I can't imitate it right now, but it sounds like the Chinese speak English without any Chinese accent, but they have Chinese intonations. That's it.
That's where that girl lives. The accent of that girl that told me once I had a terrible accent. And similar to her sounds a young singer, Keisha, I think that her name is pronounced, or Keisha. She says, because when I leave, I brush my teeth with the bottle and jack, because when I leave for the night, I ain't coming back.
Oh, she sounds already drunk, not even reaching the place where they would have a party, according to the lyrics of the song. Oh, yeah. So I think that's terrible. That's all I have to say right now. Oh, I gotta calm down right now. I gotta calm down.

Stacey, you're correct because I have dated a Welsh girl. Louie, as in Griffin, knows who I'm talking about because, but she didn't talk to her verbally, but she knows the girl. And they have indeed, the reason why you call it Chinese is because
that accent is, when they speak, I mean, at least when Laura, yeah, it's another Laura Talmadge, and Dan, but Dan knows her, I think. And they're almost singing sometimes when they speak. And there is this, yeah, there's some intonations in that accent that I can see why you
compare it to the Chinese. I can see why. It's not Chinese, but I can see where you're coming from. Yeah, absolutely.

Oh, that's an awesome topic. I'm Anne from Germany and I live in Bavaria in the south. I originally come from Baden-Württemberg, that's the county next to Bavaria. For about 10 years I lived in Bavaria and I find myself quite often
talking in the Bavarian slang and that sometimes makes me weird because it's quite difficult for me to keep my accent as it is, as it just is my accent. For example my mum, she lives hundreds of kilometres from
her birthplace, you know, and she lives for about 15 years, she doesn't live there in her birth town and she doesn't have the accent of that place she's living and that's a very, very different accent concerning to her birthplace and that's quite astonishing because some people might
manage to keep their accent as a whole as it is and some people like me, it's quite complicated.

My English accent is quite a special one, I'd say. Because I've been travelling to the UK for lots of years. Lots of years, yeah. And mostly to Scotland. And I'd say my English accent is a mixture between the German accent I got and the Scottish accent.
I'd say the Lowland accent. Yeah, and the wonderful Oxford English we used to learn at school. That's quite weird.

Wow, Anne, what a cool accent you've got. It's funny, because although I don't have a Scottish accent by default, as I've said in the thread before, I think, I'm more Scottish than I am English if you go by bloodline. And I can pick up a Scottish lilt from a mile away, you know. No matter how faint it is, I can hear it in somebody's voice and go, Oh, you've either been to Scotland or live there or part of your family come from Scotland or something.
As soon as I heard you speak, I was thinking that you were saying you were from Germany, and I'm thinking, this girl's either been taught English by a Scotsman or has Scottish relatives or has either lived or been to Scotland for a long time. It's funny, isn't it, how you can pick up these accents. Probably somebody who wasn't Scottish or wasn't used to the Scottish accent probably wouldn't even pick that up, but I picked it up straight away. That's really cool. That's a really mixed accent.
You've got there. And sometimes some of the words you say come out a bit American as well. I don't know how, I can't really comment on how good your imitation of the American accent was, because not being American, I can imitate it, but I'm not that great at it, so I won't do that. But I can't remember just now what it was you said, but there was something you said, and I thought, Oh, yeah, there's the American coming out. Accents are fascinating, and I love this thread.

Lynn, you're right, and Anne, again, hello, because I've said hello to you in another thread, but I had already noticed this in your reply to one of my voice messages, that you do not have the typical German accent in English. Well, there's nothing wrong about having a German accent, to be honest, but it's not there with you, not much, at least.
It's like me, it's a mixture of a lot of things that I cannot say that I have quite a British accent, I have not a French accent, not an American accent, I don't think, and I can now hear it myself when I sometimes listen to my posts, I should say, but definitely you don't have this, the accent that usually I can expect from a German accent.
So it's very obvious that you traveled a lot, of course, and, well, I have made comments, as far as your singing is concerned, in the singing thread, so you can review it. Well, I will finish this post, because I will be cut off soon,

Hey everybody, it's Jake here again. I love listening to different accents and I think they're interesting. One of the accents, one of my favorites I think to listen
to is Irish. I have a friend whose mother was from Ireland. Unfortunately, she passed away earlier this year, but she came
to this country I believe several years ago and she still had part of her accent and I could tell and she was a really nice person.
So that's my take on accents.

Hello, it's Gamera42 in the western United States, Seattle, Washington I should say as I trip over my own words. No idea whether I have an accent that's typical of the area compared to other people that live here. I've only lived here a few years and maybe some accents may be more subtle than others compared to like a deep southern United States accent or one from New York.
Or other parts of the country or the world that is. I have corresponded on tape with people from different parts of the country and I hear accents from all over the place. Although admittedly most of them are more exaggerated, imitated fake cartoon accents than a lot of real ones. I don't know a lot of people from different parts of the world. I think accents are interesting.
So I can't really say that there are accents that I dislike because part of what you're hearing in an accent is the person's voice. And if a person has an unpleasant sounding voice then you're going to think the accent is also just as unpleasant. So it's hard for me to say that there are accents I dislike. I think it's all just interesting and fascinating. I hear a lot of interesting accents.
I don't know if I've ever heard of an accent that has a lot of fake accents here on this thread. And it's gone foom at me a couple of times. I think I better hit the button and get on out of here.

Hello, this is Julia. I'm not quite sure what type of accent I have. I've heard, someone tell me, I can't believe you've never been to Ireland before. I've heard New York, New Jersey, Boston. I don't know. I have no idea. I've heard everything.
I've even heard people say I don't sound completely American either. So, excuse me. I'm not quite sure what type of accent it is. I've got in my background, I've got Irish, German, Dutch, English, Scottish, Norwegian or something, or something Nordic.
I guess it's just a mixture of all sorts of accents. And my friends like it when I do an English accent. I don't know why they like it, but they think it's cool. But for anyone, English is probably going to kill me. Okay, so I like this forum. This forum is cool. I think accents are fascinating too. Okay, someone...
Reply back to me if you want to. Anyone Irish can say whatever they want, or English, or whatever. Probably budget both accents, but... Is that what this is for? Yeah. So, yeah, that's it.

I just thought how amused it made me feel.
These people had no idea why we found it funny, and we had no idea why they were annoyed that they wanted us to say all these crazy words. Have yourselves a good evening, or day, or whatever. It's one in the morning here. Yeah, and may you all be in joy.

Excuse me. Yes, this is Ashley about accents. I can't really do any accents except sometimes I will slip into what people refer to here in Texas as redneck mode. I live in East Texas and so there's like a little bit of a twang or thing to our words every now and then.
But what I was going to say is that I have a sighted friend who reads to me sometimes and she's able to make different accents with her voice like British or German or you know just different kind of sounds and it makes the reading quite interesting. So I guess that's all I wanted to say. Alright, well have a good evening.

Oh yes, I love it when people can do that. I read a lot of, or rather listen to a lot of audiobooks, and I do think that a person who can read with the accents makes the book a whole lot better. I, a while ago, read quite a lot of books by an author called Margaret Dickinson, who writes about Lincolnshire, where I come from, but the stories were spoiled by the fact that the reader,
is used to reading books that are set up in the north of the country, so Newcastle Way, and she can't do the Lincolnshire accent. And I'd very much like to get those same books in braille and read them for myself, because I can hear the accent in my head then. Or get somebody from Lincolnshire to read the books. Because the stories were really good, but I didn't enjoy them, because of the reader's poor ability to do the accent.
It was quite a disappointment. And then it can work the other way around. I'm listening to a book at the minute, it's actually quite a controversial story, actually, called The Queen and I. It's all about the British royal family having to leave Buckingham Palace and live in a council estate, and the reader who's reading that can imitate the voices of the Queen and Prince Charles, and they're the two that I've heard the most, so I know she's got those right, but I should think the others are pretty good too.
So there is a lot in being able to read using not just your own voice, but many different voices if you can do it, and different accents too. Definitely a good point there.

What I should point out here, in favour of the reader who read the books that I didn't really enjoy, she also read a lot of Catherine Cookson books. Like I say, she writes about sort of up north. And those were really good, because that reader can actually do the northern accent really well. She made those books really enjoyable, because she could put lots of expression into the voices and really make them sound good.
And that's part of the story, I think, and the accents that the reader can do. I just thought I'd point that out, because the reader herself is not a bad reader, she just didn't suit those particular stories, because she couldn't do the accent. But there are plenty of other ones that she can do.

Yes, this is Ashley. I was going to add something else I just thought of when listening to your thread, Songbird. There's a reader who reads the Harry Potter books, and his name is Jim Dell, and he has the most awesomest way of being able to sit there and make all completely different characters just using his voice. It is quite fascinating.
So if you ever get a chance, any of y'all, read his books, which he has recorded. I don't know if he's done any more other than the Harry Potter series, but it's really fascinating. Anyway, well, have a good night.

Hello everyone. Long time no talk in this voice forum. Yeah, so, um, I think, Alex, you may like the New York accent just because it's very close to British accent. Yeah, it's very close to British accent. That's why. So, oh, Ashley.
I wish you could send me a private message with a link to a website where you got the Harry Potter audiobooks in English. Well, some people that, um, that know me quite well, they may think I'm quite obsessed with the Harry Potter series. I just, um, I asked, um,
I asked for movies, I asked for textbooks, and now I'm asking for audiobooks. And if that reader's really good, well, it's, it's nice. I remember I once listened to Oliver Twist. It was an audiobook, and, um, the reader read the book very fast. He spoke very fast. But he had a voice for every character, even a girl. Yeah.
When he spoke like a girl, he spoke in a high-pitched falsetto. So, it was really funny. That's all for now, I think. I'll be out of time.
